Few structures in Martin County have been 'reincarnated' for different businesses for as long a period of time as the Roebuck Building on US 1 in Stuart, built in 1927, near Frazier Creek...The Roebuck Building...It was to be a commercial two-story masonry building, flat roofed and rectangular in shape...The first floor included a dining room and lobby with tall open beams and a brick fireplace. A staircase led to 12 modernly furnished rooms on the second level; Grand Opening of the Hotel Rob Roy was May 20, 1927...The establishments were remodeled, redesigned and renamed Rice's. The restaurant was open from 6 am to midnight, where from 1948 to '55 Mae (Anderson) Apostolopoulos worked as a waitress. "It's Never Too Late for Breakfast" was the slogan, painted on the side of the building and a cup of good coffee cost a nickel...Today the refurbished building is owned by Jeff Hardin of Straticon, a developer.
