Sam Matthews built this house in 1913 as his personal residence. Matthews built the Hotel St. Lucie, Woodmen Hall in 1914, Stuart’s first bank, the Schroeder riverfront home, Kimberly Apartments in 1913, and many more of Stuart’s best. Sam Matthews was selected one of Stuart’s first aldermen. This ‘Key West style’ grand house has been a first class ‘bed and breakfast’ of late.
