About Raymond Twiddy
Drawing and printmaking have allowed me to explore visual illusion on paper. Sometimes creating an illusion of volume, and, at other times, of space. The viewer is invited to play illusionistic games: peer through openings on paper (space); watch darkness play against light, as images are repeated and reversed, as I make white a positive or negative statement. The line becomes a pure statement, a real image, and as the line touches the edge of the paper, the viewer experiences a new awareness: the paper is functioning as space.
