"The Residency for International Creators with Exploratory Projects invites outstanding young creators from overseas, providing them with a residency opportunity to engage with the creative culture of Japan, and encouraging international exchange by arranging opportunities to interact with creators in Japan.

This residency program is part of the “Project to Support Emerging Media Arts Creators” organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan (Bunka-cho in Japanese). Emerging artists in Media Arts (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) around the world are invited to come and stay in Tokyo to create new works. Whether the works are media art, videos, games, animations, or manga, the artists will be able to experience Japanese Media Arts culture, with additional opportunities to meet with Japanese creators to discuss their works. The aim of this program is not only to support the realization of works and research projects but also to stimulate cross-cultural dialogues through Media Arts.

Japan Media Arts Festival

The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of “Media Arts” (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) that recognizes outstanding works in its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. The festival has awarded prizes to significant, creative works of artistic value since its establishment in 1997, and through its annual Exhibition of Award-winning Works, it has offered the public an opportunity to directly appreciate these celebrated works, and also to participate in related events such as symposia and artists’ lectures.
Last year, the 21st Festival received 4,192 entries from 98 countries and regions around the world. Over the years, the festival has earned international recognition as one of the most prominent showcases in the field of “Media Arts” surveying the latest artistic expressions that continue to diversify in today's ever-changing world.
